Just the beginning..

I'm here! I made it to Honduras!
My first plane ride was amazing. Going so fast right before you take off is exhilarating. I loved watching the buildings become smaller and smaller, and flying above the clouds as I watched the sky change colours while the sun rises.

Driving up to Siguetepeque from San Pedro Sula was an adventure in itself. The roads and driving conditions are not like what they are in Canada. People seem to be a little less impatient, but a lot better at driving through a maze. While you wait for an opportunity to move, people don't hesitate to go up to your window and try to sell you things. Whether it's baskets, food, or drinks, they want to be the one to satisfy your need.

The scenery is unbelievable. I love looking around outside and seeing mountains and trees in every direction. I'm still not used to it. I don't think I ever will be. I'm definitely not used to seeing horses or cows outside of a fence, or having a rooster outside my window who crows bright and early.

My living situation is so nice! I'm living with a roommate, Amanda, in a house which is in a woman and her grandmother's backyard. It has a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and two bedrooms. Everything you need! My favourite part is the tin roof because it sounds so nice when it rains, although the coffee maker is a close second.

I'm slowly picking up basic Spanish. I'm able to say "excuse me, I'm sorry, thank you," and different greetings and goodbyes. Although trying to have a conversation with someone is quite entertaining and consists of a lot of laughs, facepalms, and taking out my Spanish phrase book to be able to say simple words like "Dinner" and days of the week. I want to absorb as much Spanish as I can so I'm able to have a proper conversation with someone and not embarrass myself.

It's easy to say I'm already in love with Honduras and I know these next 3 months will be an amazing experience. God has a lot in store and I'm excited to be here.

7 Days!

*Starbucks knows what's up
SEVEN DAYS! Seven days till I'm in Honduras. Seven days till I say "adios Canada" and "hola Honduras!"

This morning I saw a countdown for Christmas, and I thought about how what I'm feeling right now is similar to a kid at Christmas time. He/she is excited, impatient (trust me, these days feel longer than normal ones), thinking about everything that's going to happen, and only being able to talk about how excited they are (sorry, friends.) My stomach can't handle it but my heart can. I'm ready for this adventure to begin. 7 days.

Get this: This time next week I'll be hopping off a plane in another country (!!!)

Ps. 99 days till Christmas

12 Days!

12 days ladies and gentlemen. The countdown has been on for awhile but it's just starting to all feel real. Flights are booked, plans are made, and excitement is high. As this is my first trip by myself, I get a little nervous when I think about being on a plane for the first time, layovers, being away from my family and friends, and being in a foreign country where I don't know a lot of people or understand the language very well. But when I stop thinking about how scared and nervous I should be, I realize that God is in control and He knows what adventures I'll be apart of. And suddenly I'm at peace. When I stop trying to take matters into my own shaky hands and simply give my worries to God, I'm able to think about the amazing experiences and opportunities I'll have to serve the people of Honduras.

I'm overwhelmed with all the support people are giving me. Whether it's prayerfully, financially, or sweet words of encouragement. I'm surrounded by such an amazing group of believers who want to bless others and help them do what God wants them to do. I'm so thankful for my church family and everything they've done to get me where I am today.

I'm excited to see what God has in store for me in these next few months. I hope you'll come alongside me during this journey and see how it all unfolds!
